Without a vision for your life, your efforts can fail. You need to aim at something. If you're just going through the motions and living your fallen-into-routine, something needs to change. You need to change. And it starts with painting a picture of what life could look like if you actually happened to your life instead of letting it happen to you.
It's time you got up and faced the music. Start writing your own music. Begin a new chapter. End the lethargy of now. Creating a vision for your life is not hard. Begin with the end in mind. Write your obituary of what people might say about you at your funeral. Get specific. Get detailed. Use data driven results. Who remembers you? What are you remembered for? What have you accomplished? This exercise should take you about 20 minutes.
Once you do that, you have the end grand finale in mind. Now you need to paint a 10-year vision, five-year vision, and one year vision for your life. You're going to reverse engineer that climactic scene at the end of your life. Each 10, five, and one year vision should have a name like a movie title. How old will you be in 10 years? How old would you be in five years? How old will you be next year? Write these things down.
Next, clarify your life domains. Everything revolves around health, wealth, and relationships. What are you doing to become the best version of yourself 10, five, and one year out? Use present language like "I am fit and healthy. I am married with three kids," etc.
Getting clear on your vision is essential to aiming at something in life.
